Our story

Sub Sun is a London-based premium eyewear label that lives at the intersection of design and music culture. Our frames are shaped in collaboration with the most influential artists of our time; individuals whose creative forces not only define their genre but have also reshaped the cultural landscape. Co-founded by designer Tom Leuchars and world-renowned DJ, Bradley Zero, founder of Rhythm Section International, Sub Sun has spent years immersed in the interplay between identity, style and sound, crafting frames that will tell stories for years to come.

Manufacturing process

Every Sub Sun frame is the result of a study into longevity; durability is not an afterthought but the foundation of our handcrafted manufacturing process. We select only the finest acetate from Mazzuchelli, the Italian atelier renowned for producing the world’s most exquisite materials for over a century. Five-barrel hinges reinforce structural integrity, while UV400 CR39 lenses provide uncompromising clarity and scratch resistance. The combination of these elements ensures our frames are built not just to be worn, but to be lived in, to amplify identity and to create their own stories.

Design language

Our design language emerges from the cultural archives of music through our endless study of gig footage, album covers, music magazines, documentaries, and historic photographs of artists. We spend hours immersed in these cultural artifacts, searching for silhouettes that have defined past eras. From these references, we distil the most enduring forms and reinterpret them through our own lens, refining proportion, balance, and line. The result is a frame that carries the spirit of the past and the stories it’s been part of while existing firmly in the present. Every detail is deliberate and shaped by an obsessive pursuit of harmony and precision.

Cultural Impact

We work with musical icons co-creating shades that carry the spirit and impact of their legacy while documenting their stories around the release, recently collaborating with Joel Gion of the Brian Jonestown Massacre, a figure whose influence on music and culture transcends generations.

Beyond music, we’ve joined forces with trailblazing designers like Nicholas Daley, whose voice has become central to contemporary British fashion. Our frames can be found in the world’s most prestigious streetwear stores in destinations, from New York to London, Tokyo to Melbourne, and are worn by artists who shape today’s musical and cultural landscape, Geese, Green Tea Peng and Nightmares on Wax to name a few.
